Residential Landscaping Projects from Landscape Workshop: Dobbs Residence, Pirate's Cove, Alabama

The owner has an affinity for indigenous and tropical species. Situated on a deep-water cove, the property is exposed to salt and wind. It features 14,000 sf of sod, an herb garden, a vegetable garden and several containers featuring seasonal color.

Challenges/Opportunities

1. Climate. Salt and wind resistance were important considerations when selecting plant material for the site. Similarly, because of the humidity, careful attention to the sod is required to prevent Large Patch disease. Therefore, our chemical tech performs a weekly check and treats as necessary.

2. Owner preference. The owner’s affinity for indigenous and tropical flora provided both inspiration and design constraints.
