Residential Landscaping Projects from Landscape Workshop: Cuckler Residence, Mountain Brook, Alabama
This homeowner specifically asked for a design that provided a pleasing environment during the fall, winter, and spring seasons, as they spend more time enjoying their garden during these three seasons. The project was a team approach, involving those of Nimrod Long & Associates, Garner Stone, and Rain-N-Shine irrigation. Nimrod Long developed the initial landscape design, and subsequent changes were implemented at the client’s request as this stunning transformation unfurled. Truly a group endeavor, this project is an excellent illustration of how our clients can take a real hands-on approach.
Challenges/Opportunities
1. Site conditions. Large trees required careful maneuvering through tight spaces.
2. Concealed contingency. Buried underground, a large amount of concrete was discovered during installation. Before work could resume, the concrete was removed.
3. Drainage. Misdirected and standing water warranted the installation of several hundred feet of drainage pipe.
4. Rejuvenation. Located on the rear terrace in a planting pocket, a 25-foot-tall magnolia tree was reconditioned. After some judicious pruning, this majestic beauty radiates in this exquisite outdoor space.
