Commercial Landscaping Projects from Landscape Workshop: Ross Bridge, Hoover, Alabama
One of the largest of sites we’ve ever landscaped, Ross Bridge is a resort home community, featuring a 5-star resort hotel, flanked by a world-class golf course, an urban center, and eight mid- to high-income neighborhoods.
Challenges/Opportunities
1. Teamwork. Incorporating trees and shrubs into this large-scale project, our goal was to maximize their impact on the overall design. We worked closely in the fi eld with the architect on the landscape plan, which resulted in a truly unique, exquisitely landscaped property.
2. Scheduling. The time frame for implementing the landscape plan was compressed. Maintaining quality in short turnaround time and thereby exceeding our client’s expectations was a priority.
3. Differentiation. Because Ross Bridge is tucked away in an area where a number of new neighborhood developments have sprung up, it was important to the project team to create landscaping that separates it from the rest. Evidence of a job well done came when the project won the community’s Presidential Award, the highest award it can earn.
4. Creating an experience. Located in a recessed area with a striking waterfall feeding it, the hotel pool is one of the resort’s signature experiences. Hardscape and landscape elements successfully intermingle, providing a spectacular experience for the senses. A lush and varied mix of evergreens, hardwoods, and fl owering trees and shrubs surround this magnifi cent pool, offering exceptional views and a feeling of dramatic seclusion.
