Commercial Landscaping Projects from Landscape Workshop: Colonial Pinnacle at Craft Farms, Gulf Shores, Alabama

A newly constructed lifestyle center located on Highway 59 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Colonial Pinnacle is anchored by a Target, Cobb 14 Cinemas, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Books-A-Million. An additional 40 stores are located throughout four quadrants. Bordering two of the quadrants, a striking courtyard features large Medjool date palms (Phoenix dactylifera).

Challenges/Opportunities

1. Scale. The palms had to be at least 30 feet tall to match the scale of the large pelican statuary placed in recesses along the second story of the building’s facade and the large fountains in the courtyard.

2. Timing. To prevent destruction of the newly finished walkways, we worked closely with the owner to schedule delivery of the flora so that we could complete the installation before paving began.
